Worthy Cause: United Neighborhood Network Association Gala (UNNA)

Image Description

On October 6, 2018 the United Neighborhood Network Association held its annual charity banquet. It was an enlightening, empowering, fun-filled, beautiful evening.

Speaking at this charity gala was Kimberly Jean-Pierre, Assembly member for the 11th District of the New York Assembly. She encouraged all to exercise the right to vote and, as a woman, to keep fighting the good fight although dark clouds are swirling on the horizon. This may be discouraging. This may be depressing leading to despondency but that you must find help whether it is through friends, organizations or family to pull you back from giving in. As a woman of Haitian descent she was dismayed that a 5.9 magnitude earthquake had just hours ago hit Haiti. UNNA was once again ready to give assistance to this cause as they did during the last earthquake. The organization donated to Doctors Without Borders as they went to the aid of the Haitian population after the 2010 earthquake that killed more than 2,000 people and injured over 300, 000 people.

UNNA is involved in community based projects for charity. They help to provide education and opportunity; they join together as a united front to make a difference in their community, and provide assistance after natural disasters.

To date the organization has handed out one hundred and one scholarships to children in South Manchester, wheelchairs to residents of Grove Town, Resource and other neighborhoods in South Manchester, donated computers to schools, automated electrocardigram defibrillators to schools and health centers, medical supplies to the Cross Keys Health Center, assisted with school supplies. I was happy to have been able to assist in that endeavor with medical supplies to the health center. Assistance and aid is awarded without prejudice and preferential treatment.

Aeon Mitchell along with his wife Claudett and other members who play a vital role in the organization, has worked tirelessly to give help and aid to others not limited to those in their community. It is not without stones being thrown at times towards this top class organization. There will always be the .5% of negativity.

Information can be found at UNNAJAM.ORG. Support this organization and next year same time, same place there will be another banquet to raise funds for those who are in need.
