Dantie Smith-Brown

Author, Master's Degree in Public Health

Dantie Smith-Brown was born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies, where she graduated from teacher’s college before migrating to the United States. Changing course upon arrival, she became a Respiratory Care Practitioner when her father introduced her to that specialized area in health care. She is passionate about educating, diagnosing and treating individuals who suffer from heart and lung diseases to improve their health and well-being.

This principle of improving health and wellbeing was a driving force in her returning to her beloved island home to host a health fair along with other members of The Bethel Town and Neighboring Community Association (BTANCA) in western Jamaica. While working at a Home Care company, she was asked to write pieces on allergies that trigger asthma and factors that lead to noncompliance for diabetes during the Christmas holidays. This reminded her of her love of writing stories and, being an avid reader and a constant traveler to Jamaica and other areas of the world, she decided to write her own Romance/Adventure novel. This love of reading channeled her into writing short, funny stories and speeches for friends and family. It seemed a natural progression for her to write a hot, passionate story about people and relationships, loyalty, love and romance, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and relaxed atmosphere of this tropical island where she was born.

Sunlight and Dappled Shade is her debut novel, which is followed by Blood in the Water, its sequel. Her love for Track and Field is evident in both sagas, which follow the lives of friends from the fictional Bell Town across the globe, to the Olympics and back. Currently she works as a Respiratory Care Practitioner at a city Hospital in New York. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services Management and a Master’s Degree in Public Health, majoring in Health Promotion She currently resides in Long Island with her husband.
